Which reminders Plum sends, and how to turn them off

By the Plum team · Checked against the app on September 4, 2026

Plum sends a small set of reminders, each with its own switch. Nothing is on that you can’t turn off, and everything is managed in one place, Me, then Notification Preferences.

Reminders about your cycle

  • Period starting soon. A heads-up before your next expected period.
  • Period ending soon. Near the end of your usual length, so you can log the last day.
  • Ovulation soon. Before the estimated ovulation day. Off by default while a hormonal birth control method is active.
  • Did your period start? A quick check on the predicted day if you haven’t logged, because the answer sharpens the next prediction either way.
  • Predictions updated. When a new period you logged moves the forecast.
  • Cycle summary ready. A recap of the cycle that just ended.

Daily reminders

  • Daily check-in. A nudge to log how today went. It knows when you’ve already logged and stays quiet.
  • Self-care nudge. An afternoon note in the run-up to your period and during it.
  • Birth control reminder. At the time you chose, for the pill, patch, ring or shot. Set it under Me, then Birth Control.

Group reminders

  • Someone joined. When a friend joins one of your groups.
  • Your group is in sync. When several members’ periods land in the same week. Plum works this out on your phone from what the group already shares, and never sends it to anyone else.

Reminders that come with Premium

  • New insights ready, once Plum has enough logs to show a pattern.
  • A new phase started, with what to expect.
  • The daily tip.

Those three open paid screens, so Plum only schedules them for subscribers. Nobody taps a banner that ends on a paywall. What Premium includes is on its own page.

Common questions

How do I turn off a Plum reminder?

Open Me, then Notification Preferences, and switch off the one you don’t want. Each reminder has its own switch. Birth control reminders live under Me, then Birth Control, with their own time.

Does Plum remind me to take my pill?

Yes, if you set up a method under Me, then Birth Control. Reminders are available for the pill, patch, ring and shot. You pick the time, and if your phone changes time zone Plum offers to shift the reminder so it still lands the same number of hours apart.

Why didn’t I get a reminder?

Check that notifications for Plum are allowed in iPhone Settings, and that the reminder is switched on in Notification Preferences. Reminders about your period depend on a prediction, so they only fire once Plum has a period logged to predict from.

Do my group members get a notification when my period starts?

No. The only group notification is a note when somebody new joins, and a heads-up on your own phone when several members’ periods fall in the same week. Your period dates update quietly on their timeline.

Which reminders need Plum Premium?

The ones that open paid content: new insights being ready, a phase starting with what to expect, and the daily tip. Everything about your period, ovulation, check-ins, birth control and groups is included with the app.
